Gatecrasher's Trance Anthems 1993-2009

Gatecrasher, a name synonymous with a great night out now treats you to a great night in. Let their latest release, "Trance Anthems 1993-2009" take you on a journey spanning over a decade.

Anyone my age will no doubt remember the birth of Trance, Ibiza was the launching pad of so many great tunes (and for the most part, still is).
Sadly as the years roll on, many of the great tunes arn't just gone they have been totally forgotten. So imagine my excitement when this album was dropped on my desk to review.

Scott Bonds track selection is fantastic, laying down some note worthy tunes like Communication, Ligaya, 1998 and Adagio for strings. True anthems that to this day still set the dance floor on fire.

Matt Hardwicks selection continues with a chillout mix of Lustrials everytime but soon picks up the pace with some absolute classics like strange world, Carte Blanche and Dark Side of the moon.

The climax of the Album is Judge Jules, and who spins some modern greats, slightly bias with his track choice however but as is always with "The Judge" a consitantly smooth and bangin mix, start to finish.

This Album for is certainly one of the best collection of classic anthems around, but for me at least it is missing a few of the greats, Signum, Chicain, Energy 52 etc, some would argue they have been done to death, I feel however it leaves room for a Volume 2. All in all an asset to anyones CD collection. And worth its 9/10 rating.

There are imo far to many of these things concentrating on old stuff one has heard a thousand times before. Its time for things like Gatecrasher to move on and start bringing out some more up to date stuff. All those old tunes are fine but you can get them on dozens of other compilations. Its time to bring on the newer stuff. You can't live in the past forever and trance does not belong just in the past. There have been some amazing trance tunes in the last few months. Lets have some compilations concentrating on this more up to date stuff, please.
