Claudia Cazacu interview

Lou

Claudia, welcome! Can I firstly ask how did you get into the trance scene? Did you tirelessly send out demos to everyone and anyone? or did you make your breakthrough in a different way?

Claudia
I worked hard in the studio and sent my tracks to record labels as well as releasing on my own label.

Lou
Hard work is gets you there! so What were your influences behind breaking into the industry?  What sold it to you as your chosen career?

Claudia
It’s the only thing I’m good at. I’d invite you to dinner, but I am so bad at cooking I’d probably give you food poisoning :)

Lou
*laughing* Thanks for the head's up there, Claudia. If you weren't a dj, What do you think you would have choosen to do, and why?

Claudia
The world of employment didn’t really suit me. I prefer to be getting in, not out of bed, early in the morning... ;)

Lou
Sounds like me!. I love my bed, I digress, Your current tracks 'Nefertiti'/'Lekker' have awesome names, like many of your previous releases. Where do you get your inspiration from when naming your tracks?

Claudia
I named them after other things that are influences in my life.

Lou
If I did that, I'd end up with track names that had many variations of 'chocolate', 'rose wine' and 'trance music'! Do you have an 'all-time favorite track'? and if so, what makes this track special for you?

Claudia
Energy 52 - Café del Mar. This track is Ibiza!.

Lou
Always conjures that image in my head every time that I hear it. Are there any new countries you would like to play out in this year?

Claudia
Egypt... I am desperate to see the Pyramids.

Lou
The penny has dropped, that certainly explains the origins of 'Nefertiti' then. You have played out at Judge Jules's 'Judgement Sunday's' nights in Ibiza this season.  Did he approach you directly for this? what was it like to play such an established clubber's night?

Claudia
I played there last year as well, and it’s a real honour to go back this year. The night is just magical with such great productions levels. Jules really knows how to put on a party.

Lou
Judging by the videos I've seen, and the rave reviews that I've read, yes he sure does! Need to get my bags packed and head out there as soon as possible, I think!! Leading nicely into my next question, a previous interviewee here is another 'Judgement' resident, Vicky Devine.  You worked with her on 'Glamour' (released September 1st on Beatport).  How did this come about? and what was it like to work with Vicky?

Claudia
Yeah, Vicky and I are friends. She comes to stay a lot with me in London and so we decided to unite our forces. We get along great so the track came really easy and demonstrates both of our styles.

Lou
I love the track, It has a real pumping drive behind it. If you had one last track to play in your last ever DJ set, which track would you end your set with, and why?

Claudia
Gotta be 'Freefalling' (Feat. Audrey Gallagher) – it’s about the right time and place.

Lou
Such an emotive track, I can imagine that would be a perfect finale... or encore track. Finally, can you tell Discover Trance what's planned in Claudia's world for the next 12 months?

Claudia
Studio, studio, studio and if I have time, some more studio.

Lou
Thank you so much for your time, Claudia.

And there you have it, a very hard working lady!  Keep your eyes peeled for more happenings with Miss Cazacu at:
